Sales Ask pulls completed calls and recordings from RingCentral and files each one under the matching rep. Once the integration is enabled, Sales Ask subscribes to RingCentral automatically.

What you need

  • Client ID
  • Client Secret
  • JWT Token
You also need automatic call recording turned on in RingCentral (see Step 7). You need a RingCentral Super Admin or Admin account, and an organization API key in Sales Ask. Sales Ask won’t save the RingCentral connection until the organization has an API key.

Step 1: Create the RingCentral app

  1. Log in to the RingCentral developer console.
  2. Click Register App and choose REST API app.
  3. Set the app name and display name to Sales Ask.
  4. Set the description to Integration with Sales Ask.
  5. Select No for App Gallery and set the app to Private.

Step 2: Configure authentication

  1. In the Auth section, select JWT auth flow.
  2. Make sure Refresh tokens is enabled.
  3. Leave Interactive messages unchecked.

Step 3: Add app permissions

In the app’s App Permissions field, add these permissions: Save the app, then copy its Client ID and Client Secret.
Without Call Control, RingCentral silently disables the call subscription (error SUB-410) and no calls arrive in Sales Ask.

Step 4: Create a JWT credential

  1. From the account menu in the top right, click Credentials.
  2. Click Create JWT and name it Sales Ask JWT.
  3. Select Allow specific apps of my choice and paste the Client ID from Step 3.
  4. Click Add app, then Create.
  5. Copy the JWT token.

Step 5: Connect in Sales Ask

  1. Make sure your organization has an API key.
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations and search for RingCentral.
  3. Paste the Client ID, Client Secret, and JWT Token.
  4. Click Save.
When you save, Sales Ask checks the credentials and subscribes to completed RingCentral calls that have a recording. If RingCentral rejects the credentials, Sales Ask shows an error. Check the Client ID, Client Secret, and JWT token, then save again.

Step 6: Set up reps

Sales Ask matches RingCentral calls to reps by phone number only, using the primary number of the rep’s RingCentral extension.
  1. In Sales Ask, go to Settings → Manage Teams → Add Member → Invite New Member and invite each rep.
  2. Once a rep joins, have them add the primary number of their RingCentral extension to the Phone number field under Settings → Account, with country code, for example +14165551234.
If your main company line routes calls to users, each rep still needs their own extension’s primary number on their profile. Calls are matched to the extension that answered, not to the main line.
Calls between two internal extensions are not imported.

Step 7: Turn on automatic call recording

Sales Ask only imports calls that have a recording, so turn on automatic call recording for your reps’ extensions in the RingCentral Admin Portal.
  1. Sign in to the RingCentral Admin Portal.
  2. Go to Phone System → Company Call Handling.
  3. Under Call recording, turn on Automatic call recording.
  4. Under Extensions to Record, click Edit, select each rep’s extension, and check Inbound and Outbound.
  5. Click Save, then Save again on the main screen.
For the full steps, including the classic Admin Portal view and announcement options, see RingCentral’s guide: Turning on on-demand or automatic call recording.
RingCentral offers automatic call recording on its Advanced and Ultra plans only.

If you regenerate your API key

The RingCentral subscription is registered with your organization API key. If you regenerate the key, open Settings → Integrations → RingCentral, disconnect, and connect again with the same credentials.
